Major Western Integrated Healthcare
System
A large not-for-profit hospital
system
contracted with ALC Healthcare Network,
Inc. for
an array of services to mitigate the
impact of financial
losses. ALC was retained
to identify and provide
implementation
support of revenue enhancement and cost
containment opportunities. The project encompassed skilled
nursing, acute
rehabilitation and both inpatient and
outpatient psychiatric
programs
within each of seven regional hospitals. In
one facility, clinic and
emergency services were
evaluated, as well.
In the SNF product line, a positive impact of >$3.3 M
was achieved for the region.
The Director of Strategic Development for the region

intake processes, staffing patterns and mix, care
management strategies,
use of therapy and other
ancillary services, clinical practice patterns and
processes, and the
interdisciplinary team's approach to
care.
For skilled nursing facilities,
the
assessment encompassed a
Minimum Data Set sampling
analysis
for accuracy and completeness
Analysis of Financial Performance
Bill Reviews
DRG Analysis to
review acute care discharge patterns and assist with
capacity planning, to include appropriate
patient mix, acuity and composition.

The Report of
Findings articulated opportunities for managing
resources,
controlling expenses, increasing revenue and
reducing cost based on
regulatory requirements, quality
initiatives and the organization's mission
and vision. The deliverables included a comprehensive, facility
specific
action plan that incorporated quantifiable implementation strategies to
conform services to payment rates.
